Today, the one year anniversary of the earthquake, tsunami and nuclear disaster, our family took time at 14:46 to pray for Tohoku, northern Japan. Then we decided to write down what we heard the Lord saying to us. We drew pictures and wrote prayers together. Below is what our eldest heard and shared with us...

There is hope in everywhere, and that is in the Lord. For he saved the people that are in Tohoku. They have pain in their hearts and sadness in their eyes, but the Lord had watched over them in the water, in the rubble and on ground. There are seeing angles trough their eyes and the Lord’s voice through their ears. But they do not know what it means. So we must tell them that it was not luck that saved them but the Lord, and so we must show them the Lord’s love through us, and save them from the worst life, without the Lord. They have nothing to hold on to, so we must tell them about the Lord and give them the joy and real meaning of life, to believe that the Son of God came down to earth, died for our sins and gave us the chance to be with the Lord for eternity.

Amen! We agree! It’s been a hard year for so many, having gone through things we can not even imagine. Our role has been small, yet we are dedicated to doing what they Lord asks of us. Sometimes we feel weary of all that has happened, but then we hear our son’s prayer and are reminded of something Sam said to Frodo on their journey.

I know. It’s all wrong. By rights we shouldn’t even be here. But we are. It’s like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger, they were. And sometimes you didn’t want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it’s only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something, even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn’t. They kept going. Because they were holding on to something.
