Read any good books lately? 2 Years, 9 Months ago
I just finished reading Silence by Shusaku Endo and am looking for another good read on Japan. Does anyone have any book related to Japan that they would recommend? I would be interested in history, culture, historical fiction, etc... Basically anything God has used to encourage you or teach you more about Japan.

Thanks,

It has been a long time since the question has been posted...
however, here are some of the books came to my mind.

Any of the book written by Haruki Murakami because he is well read and the translation of his book has captured his writing in Japanese. Recently he has been speaking boldly about the situation of Japan check YouTube for his speeches.

You may want to begin with his latest one, 1Q84 (9 is pronounce Q in Japanese.... it reads...1984)
www.amazon.com/1Q84-Haruki-Murakami/dp/0...323302773&sr=1-1

If you are interested in business, you might want to read a Japanese business consultant and professor, Kenichi Ohmae's classic, "the mind of strategist."
www.amazon.com/Mind-Strategist-Art-Japan...siness/dp/0070479046

If you are interested in culture, I highly recommend " The Geography of Thought" by Richard Nisbett.

www.amazon.com/Geography-Thought-Asians-...323302713&sr=1-1

If you are interested in theology, you must read "Water buffalo Theology" by Kosuke Koyama
www.amazon.com/Buffalo-Theology-Annivers...323302959&sr=1-1

I may have more but these comes to my mind right now....

hope this helps.
