  • Can we double the Christian population of Japan?

This was the most encouraging Japan National Pastors’ Conference I remember in my 14 years with Asian Access.

The theme as set by Pastor Yoshiya Hari, Asian Access/Japan National Director, was “From 2020 to 2030” and Pastor Shinji Takita’s words captured it best:

  • Sunday ‘Zoom Church’—with no morning message!

How one Japanese congregation responded to the COVID-19 pandemic

    Rev. Yoshiya (Joshua) Hari

WHEN I TALKED TO PASTOR YOSHIYA (JOSHUA) HARI, THE NATIONAL DIRECTOR FOR ASIAN ACCESS JAPAN, his church had already been dealing with its own crisis before the coronavirus came. After over 20 years in the same location, in 2019 the congregation of Saikyo Hope Chapel was told they had to vacate the building they were leasing because it would be demolished. Finding a similar facility for the same price proved to be extremely difficult, so from February 2, 2020, they found themselves alternately renting one of two local community centers for services each Sunday.

Japan (MNN) — In January 2020, a group of believers in Japan lost their church building. Little did they know, God would use their “temporary solution” as a growth point when the pandemic turned the world upside-down.

  • Groundbreaking shifts resulting from Japan's Triple Disaster

AN INTERVIEW WITH REV. YOSHIYA HARI, ASIAN ACCESS JAPAN NATIONAL DIRECTOR AT 10-YEAR MARK OF 3.11

    Translated by Mary Jo Wilson

Q: What are some of your initial thoughts as we stand at the ten-year mark since the Triple Disasters hit Northeastern Japan?

Well, my first thought is that it’s hard to believe it’s been ten years. The time has gone so fast. From this vantage point, it’s clear what a huge turning point it was, both in my life and in the life of my church, and I could say even in the life of the church across Japan and for Asian Access Japan. It’s been a huge turning point.

  • Sunday in Tokyo: A Day of Beauty, A Day of Hope

imageIt was a beautiful Sunday here in Tokyo—a day that inspired my hopes for Japan, and for the world. I was more than ready for some inspiration, as the American presidential election that had taken place earlier in the week seemed so divisive.

That morning, Silk, John and I made our way to attend services at Saikyo Nozomi Chapel, led by Pastor Joshua...
